The Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation Intervention is designed to teach students the 4 Zones or levels of Alertness.

Students learn to identify Zones, Triggers, Body Clues, & strategies to be in the "ideal" zone for any situation.

Students also learn how to manage their emotions by developing “tools” to cope when feeling emotionally elevated.

The 4 Zones & Their Feelings:

Blue Zone: A LOW state of alertness (sad, tired, sick, or bored).

Green Zone: An IDEAL state (calm, happy focused or content, in control).

Yellow Zone: A HIGH state of alertness (stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, fidgeting or fear. Somewhat in control).

Red Zone: An EXTREMELY HIGH state (anger, rage, explosive behavior, panic, extreme grief, terror. Out of Control)

Please note:

Tips on How to Manage Each Zone:

Blue Zone - stretch, get some fresh air and/or have a nap.

Green Zone – drink water, read and/or journal your thoughts. These tools can be used to bring your child back from the blue, yellow and red zones.

Yellow Zone – Deep breaths, draw, listen to music and/or speak to a trusted adult and encourage help-seeking behaviours.

Red ZoneStop and take a break.

Then it is important to use this zone as a means to deescalate your child’s behaviour by using strategies from the other zones especially the blue and yellow zones. It is vital that your child does not feel punished for their actions at this point in time. That they feel heard and safe is the key in this zone. Consequences may come after your child is not emotionally heightened but while they are in the red zone it is recommended to redirect their attention to something easy and likable.

ART SHOW/ CONCERT

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Friday the 15th of November, our school will be having its annual Primary School Concert & Arts Festival.

To mark this special event, we have decided for something a bit more exciting and different this year. The events staff, the arts and music staff, and classroom teachers have teamed up to organise a day full of arts and music, with a ‘FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD’ THEME!

As you may know, the previous years have seen us hold our school concerts at various locations including on campus and other venues. This year, we are aiming for a more relaxed and family friendly concert environment, to be held outdoors at Eastmeadows Campus. We hope it will be a memorable one.

The day will hold a casual atmosphere on our basketball court area, a stage, and also the art show for families to peruse together. Both junior and upper concerts, along with an arts festival, will be held on the same day. The Arts Festival will have many art activities, with most being free of charge. You may bring a picnic rug to sit on if you wish.

The outline of the day will be as follows:

Keeping in line with our casual based theme this year, we do not want costumes bought or prepared for students. Instead, we would like them to wear a colour to match their year level.

The colours are as follows:

Foundation- Yellow t-shirts
Year 1 - Green t-shirts
Year 2 - Red t-shirts
Year 3 - Purple t-shirts
Year 4 - Blue t-shirts
Year 5 - White t-shirts
Year 6 - Black t-shirts

All students to wear blue denim jeans (shorts or skirt is also acceptable provided they are not too short).

Year 5&6 students will be transported by school busses, however will be dismissed from Eastmeadows Campus on the day.

We would like to thank you in advance for your time and support in making our school concert and arts festival come alive.

ARTS FESTIVAL & CONCERT ENTRY 10.45am onward only:

We have taken into prior feedback from families and this year, we will not charge any concert fees. We ask that you provide a Gold Coin Donation for each person entering at gate, including any child 4 and above. This will help us cover some of our art materials for the stations.

We hope to see you there!

Regards,

Sirius College Primary – Eastmeadows & Dallas
